Health Research Funding: Source and Management Authority

The Government of Malaysia has allocated funds to the Ministry of Health to fund health research in accordance with the goals and objectives of the 9MP. The Board of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will manage the funds. The Board has therefore established:

The NIH Board aims to support a diverse research portfolio and focuses on projects that have the potential to be completed within the 9th Malaysia Plan period.

How to apply for research grants from the Ministry of Health

Calls for Letter of Intent (LOI) and Calls for Research Proposal (RP) is advertised on this website. Awards will be made on a competitive basis, using transparent criteria and independent review groups.

Calls for Letter of Intent (LOI) will be issued for complex issues requiring several coordinated projects and multiple research teams. The primary purpose of the LOI will be to assess the capacity of the applicant institution(s). Successful applicants subsequently will be required to submit detailed proposals.

Calls for Research Proposal (RP) will be issued for less complex topics.

All projects funded from Ministry of Health funds must have a collaborator who is staff of the Ministry of Health or a closed link with one of the NIH Institutes.

Application Guide

Each application must be completed and submitted online within stipulated date and time. The online application form will be made available before 30th August 2006, together with the application guidelines. Meanwhile, the content of the application form can be downloaded from this website.

2.  Each individual may only submit as a Principal Applicant for one (1) LOI and one (1) Research Proposal, OR two (2) Research Proposals

3.  Successful applicant will sign a Contractual Agreement with the MOH upon approval.

5.  Successful applicants are subjected to monitoring process during the project duration. This includes timely and diligent project reporting (progress, milestones and financial report).

6.  The NIH Board in its absolute discretion and without liability to the applicant can disqualify the applicant.
